When I sat down to start my zero
draft I didn’t know where to begin. I had a fairly loose understanding of what
rhetoric was, but I didn’t feel confident enough write a paper about how
rhetoric influenced me during a specific moment in life. So, the first thing I
did was choose a moment. Luckily the moment I choose was about a topic I
enjoyed, movies. I knew there was many
times where my friends and I were persuaded to see a movie because of the
trailer or reviews we have seen and read.
Though, as the class dug deeper
into what rhetoric really was I began to understand and realize how much
rhetoric is used in our everyday lives. I began to see how Facebook and other
media sites influenced our take on movies. One important aspect of this paper
for me was to really connect with my audience. Once our class progressed I
realized I didn’t do a good enough job of doing this. I never even addressed
the audience. So, I started thinking of ways to better connect with my
audience. “You and me, as moviegoers
know, sometimes the Preview trailers are better then the actual movie we are
waiting to see. “ This sentence is
one way I better addressed and connected with my audience. I connected with my
audience because I am part of the audience. I am a fan just like the people I
was trying to reach..
I learned a lot throughout writing this paper. I am not one
to make many revisions after I have written my first draft. This assignment taught
me that you can always improve your writing no matter what. I learned how to
actually critique and make suggestions during peer review instead of just
correcting spelling and grammar mistakes. In my opinion, the most important
thing I learned was how much rhetoric is used in our everyday lives.
I liked that you explained the process of how you went about starting your first draft. The quote you used was a good example of how you addressed your audience in your paper.
ReplyDeleteIts good that you specifically mentioned how you went about beginning your introduction paragraph and connecting with your audience. However, you mention that you learned a lot while doing this first assignment and you leaned how to critique and make suggestions during peer review, but how exactly did you learn this? Talk more about the actual process that got you to the end the complete story and analysis.
ReplyDeleteYour reflection was short and simple, and it gave me a really good idea of where to start for mine. It looks like we both shared the fact of not being too familiar with what rhetoric was. Sharing that in your reflection was good because it lets the reader know what you truly learned about it.
