Backpacks vs. Briefcases

In the article Backpacks vs. Briefcases,, The author does a good job of explaining the different  rhetorical techniques pertaining to contextual analysis. This article reiterates what we have already learned that rhetoric is used in our daily lives without us knowing. I can relate to the example about the teacher walking in on the first day of school and immediately the students are dissecting every detail trying to figure the teacher out.  I also enjoyed the section about how your intended audience shapes the tone of your paper. The author states, “Audience can determine the type of language used, the formality of the discourse, the medium or delivery of the rhetoric, and even the types of reasons used the make the rhetor’s argument.” Even if we have a great argument if we use the wrong tone or language we will not be able to get our point across. Better Homes and Bloggers as a specific example of how rhetoric is used in the digital media. The thing that stands out the most is how she left out certain things about her life so be able to branch out to a wider audience.
I think that Better Homes relates more to the CCM’s because they both had real life examples of rhetoric. Better Homes with the examples of the women and Good Hair using Chris Rock as their narrator but also as an example.
After reading these two articles, I realize I need to be careful with my tone and word choice depending on who my intended is. Also, I feel that I am more able to add rhetorical analysis to my paper, which is the main thing I need to work on.
