CCM Readings

Before reading the essay, “Copyright Infringement: The Highest Form of Flattery” I thought it would be just another boring piece about copyrighting and how it is illegal. The first thing you read is about the “Happy Birthday Song” we all know and love. The paragraph about if you sang the song out in public you are considered an accidental felon really stuck out to me. Right away the paper draws you in. Everyone knows that song but you would have never thought you were committing a crime singing it. The author does a really good job incorporating her source into the essay. Multiple citations in every essay adds a sense of credibility to her paper showing from where and whom she got her information from. Another thing the author does very well is drawing everything back to the main point.  They also use real world examples to help connect readers to the paper. Also, the use of definitions in the paper helps the reader fully understand the point the author is trying to make. Copyright Infringement lets face it, not very interesting subject but the way the author grabs your attention from the start makes readers want to further explore.

After reading this essay I realize how important it is to how credible sources to incorporate through out my paper. Also the author does a great job of grabbing the reader’s attention and drawing them in. One thing I see that I need to have in my paper are real world examples of my topic to help the reader connect to the paper.

  1. I thought that the real world examples such as the reference to Walt Disney were the most effective part of this essay. It helped connect everything and it completely captivated me. Even though my attention was consumed by the examples the author always brought me back to the main point by simply stating how the example relates to copyright infringement. I think incorporating real world examples could be really fun and easy for you since your topic is about movies! Everyone loves movies and can easily relate if you give some examples! Examples could be of specific movies, it's critics, sales, areas of advertisement. I can't remember exactly what your planning on writing about other than movies but hopefully that helps.
